My name is Stephanie Gonzalez Borrero and I am 27 years old. I am a native of my beautiful town of Lares and currently live in Guayama. I am an AMSI participant and it is something that came simply when I least expected it and when I needed it the most.
To tell you a little about myself, I had a beautiful childhood with a family that was everything to me. Only when I was 15 years old, cancer knocked on the door of my home and in that hard process, I lost my mother. I was just entering high school and with her departure, my motivation to study went with her. I was always a student with excellent grades and that all changed. In spite of everything I got to the University, I started studying Business and Management Development. In the middle of this process, my father also passed away and everything went from bad to worse. I wasted my entire scholarship and was unable to complete my studies. As the months went by, I regretted not having worked hard enough for my future, but I felt it was too late. Then I moved to Guayama because of my husband’s job and that’s when I heard about AMSI. I went to deliver a resume and they presented me with an incredible opportunity to get an academic certificate.
The fact that AMSI offered me the opportunity to have a degree was something that made me cry with happiness. I know titles don’t make people but it was something I wholeheartedly longed for, I needed to feel like I achieved a goal. God works in unexpected ways, I never thought I would live in Guayama, I had never even visited this beautiful town. Now I have these opportunities and I don’t intend to waste them. In the midst of my studies, I was also able to obtain a certificate in conversational English which was so helpful. I am enjoying the Entrepreneurship workshop that I was also awarded and it is as if I feel that the blessings do not stop flowing.
I feel so blessed and grateful to AMSI that I can’t find enough words to say how every grain of sand they bring to my life helps me grow as a person and as a professional.
